How to Wrap Your Handwraps for Boxing, Kickboxing or Muay Thai

There are endless ways to wrap your hands for striking sports. Here's one way we wrap our hands for muay thai which we learned from our thai krus, which starts with the handwraps rolled backwards (i.e. from velcro to loop, so you start with the loop end). We love this method because of how quick it is, and how it provides both adequate knuckle and wrist support. If you normally prefer wrapping your hands with the full wrap loose and unwound, this may not be as efficient for you.

Preroll your wrap: Start with the wrap pre-rolled starting from the velcro end and finishing at the loop end

Form some knuckle padding: Anchor the loop with your thumb and then wrap around your fingers to create a little 'pillow' that is about the same width as your hands at the knuckles

Add the knuckle support: Lay your little knuckle pillow over your knuckles and go around the hand once or twice to secure it down

Adjust the position if needed, then bring the wrap down across your hand to go around your wrist after

Add some wrist support: go around the wrist a few times to start building up wrist support. You will wrap around the wrist in this direction a lot from here no.

Around the thumb: after going around the wrist a few times, go up over the thumb, then straight down and across the hand again to go around the wrist.

Through the fingers: after doing the thumb+wrist, go up over the hand and through the fingers. It doesn't matter which finger you do first/last.

When you have gone through the fingers, come down between the index and thumb, go across the hand and down to the wrist again.

Tip: close the fist! Closing the first during this process will help to keep the wrap nice and snug over the knuckles and keep it from getting loose.

Repeat for the other finger spaces.

Open up the velcro: our velcro is pre-closed to help keep it from catching on other things during storage and washing. Open it up then affix the end down

Neaten up the palm if you want: Some people feel more comfortable with the wrap at the fingers folded up so the palm has more space for the fingers when the fist is closed up in the glove
